Ink to color illustration tutorial: Crazy fish tank art
A relaxing two-part art journey
Learn how I turn a crazy fish tank illustration from ink to color. A beginner-friendly art tutorial showing my full drawing and coloring process.
Part 1: Sketching & inking the crazy fish tank
In the first video, I focus on the calming rhythm of inking over a prepared pencil sketch using a fineliner on Canson A5 paper.
This part is all about:
-
Slowing down and enjoying the drawing process
-
Watching loose sketches turn into confident lines
-
Discovering tiny details as the fish tank fills up
-
Creating a cozy, relaxing “draw with me” moment
There’s no rush, no pressure; just pen, paper, and a growing underwater world.

Part 2: Coloring with Alcohol Markers
Once the ink was dry, it was time for color.
In the second video, I return to the same illustration and slowly build depth and personality using alcohol markers. Each creature gets its own color palette, from bright fish to mysterious underwater shapes — all blended layer by layer.
This part focuses on:
-
Choosing colors intuitively
-
Light–medium–dark marker blending
-
Adding texture, shading, and highlights
-
Letting the artwork evolve naturally
It’s a relaxed coloring session meant to be enjoyed; whether you’re coloring along or simply watching the artwork come alive.
Watch Part 2: Coloring the crazy fish tank
One illustration, two creative moods
What I love about this project is how the same drawing tells two different stories:
-
Inking feels calm, focused, and meditative
-
Coloring feels playful, expressive, and alive
Together, these videos show my full creative process, from clean black lines to a vibrant underwater fantasy.
